Gold Coast Wives by Bernadette Walsh {Excerpt/Review/Giveaway} - Ends 6/10

Excerpt:

Back Cover Copy

Three skinny socialites should be a pushover after the rough and tumble world of Wall Street. Right?

Kate Ryan may be au fait with making high-powered legal decisions, but she's about to submit to the rules of reality TV, where nothing is what it seems. Who'd have thought a few days with the cameras rolling for a low-rent cable show would be so challenging, or that the claws of a former homecoming queen, a washed-up soap star and a whiny cat-lover would be so sharp?

Highlight

At the jewelry launch party I sat next to Annabella, sharing her enormous plate of fried calamari and chatting about her recent divorce. She assured me that the brave new world of online dating was a treasure trove of men who couldn’t wait to meet overweight forty-somethings like us. Sure, some of them had prison records, but who wasn’t entitled to a mistake or two? Annabella’s owl earrings
shook with optimism as she offered to set me up on a double date with her most recent felon’s--oh, I’m sorry, boyfriend’s--brother. I was noncommittal as I continued to inhale the calamari.

“If it isn’t my favorite lawyer!”

“Paul,” I said, turning around to face him. “What are you doing here?”

“And it’s nice to see you too, Ms. Ryan.”

Annabella winked at me and made a hasty retreat to the raw bar serving station. Behind Paul’s back, she gave me a thumbs up. Way to stay classy, Annabella. Paul was kind of cute with his deep brown eyes and crooked smile. If my husband’sabsence became permanent, Paul wouldn’t be a bad transition man. He’d certainly be more acceptable and less scary than Annabella’s ex-cons.

About The Author:

I have always been a bookworm and had always meant to write a novel "someday".  You know, when I won the lottery and could live in a beach house and look out onto the water and feel inspired.  For years ago I decided to stop waiting for my winning lottery ticket and sat down and started writing in between working and my family obligations.  I piled the words on top of each other until they formed sentences, paragraphs, chapters and eventually a book. The House on Prospect is my second novel.  My first, a contemporary romance, Gold Coast Wives, was published in November 2011.  The first book of my paranormal trilogy, Devils Mountain - Book One of the Devlin Legacy, is due to be published in June 2012.  While I've hopped around genres, all of my books to date have a common theme: strong women handling what life throws at them the best way they can.

Review:

Gold Coast Wives was an very entertaining book that was a really fun quick read.  Kate Ryan goes from a high powered lawery to reality TV to enduring the challenges with the ups and downs from those around her.  From the beginning to the end, these characters will have you either loving them or hating them.

I give this a 5 star rating!

Awaited by Lynn Rush {Interview/Book Tour}

About The Book:

Russell Leonard is a centuries-old Guardian who's lost faith in his purpose. So when he's charged with procuring the first female Guardian in over two centuries, he can only hope it's the red-headed beauty who's been haunting his dreams for months. And if it is, he intends to claim her as his. But when he finds his dream woman, Annabelle is mute and bears no Guardian's Mark. He soon realizes she's been tainted by an ancient evil. Russell must somehow release the secrets trapped within this delicate soul to help her tap into the only weapon powerful enough to silence a millennia-old demon-her voice.

About the Author:

LYNN RUSH – In her own words:

“When I started out on this writing journey, it felt like such a far away dream. I constantly asked myself, ‘Really? Me? A writer?’ Then when I was published I still asked, ‘Really? Me? An author?’ Along the way things inspired me, obstacles shot up, and doors both opened and closed…but through my faith, family, and friends, I found motivation to continue on my dream – dreams of something bigger than all of us. Whether it’s writing, music, dancing …”

Interview with Author Lynn Rush:

1. Where do you get your ideas, I love them?

Thanks. Oh, my story ideas come from anywhere and everywhere. I once woke up from a deep sleep with the first line of story on the tip of my tongue. I had to roll over and write it down. I get tons of ideas while cycling. Four hours on a road bike allots for time to let the mind wander. The main thing, though, is to always be asking yourself: What if? Yep, you’ll be surprised at what that frame-of-mind opens your eyes to and ideas to form.

2. Why the paranormal, is there a reason behind it?

I grew up loving all things beyond reality. Watching the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and then when I was older it was Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Supernatural…Got to love Sammy and Dean, right? **le sigh** So, I’m not surprised I fell into the Paranormal Genre for my writing. It’s just a fun escape.

3. Did you ever have any paranormal experiences yourself that you have written about?

I haven’t actually. But I sure love thinking up new ways to create paranormal experiences for my characters.

4. What comes after Awaited, any new projects?

Tainted is the third book in the Wasteland Trilogy, but it’s not slated to released until Winter of 2013, so I’ve got something else planned for this fall! The first book in a new—and completely different Trilogy called Violet Midnight will release in October! I’m super excited to introduce Emma and Jake’s love story to the world. Violet Midnight features Emma, a reluctant Vampire Hunter, trying to make it on a college campus. But it’s kind of hard to fit in when your body temperature is a constant 74.7, you don’t need to eat or sleep, and you’ve got this tattoo on your wrist that glows when Vamps are near. It’s a fun trilogy and I can’t wait for this October…

5. And, on a personal note, do you have any "fur-people" (pets) living with you?

Oh yes. Two dogs. Both Shetland Sheep Dogs. Maddux is seven and Herky is fourteen. At least I think … I’m horrible about remembering. Maddux is my little running buddy. We go out and do about five miles together twice a week. He’s awesome!

You can download a FREE copy of Prelude to Darkness the prequel to the Wasteland Trilogy HERE.

Pavlov's Dogs by D.L. Snell & Thom Brannan {Book Review}

About the Book:

WEREWOLVES

Dr. Crispin has engineered the saviors of mankind: Pavlov’s Dogs, a team of soldiers capable of transforming into fearsome beasts. But when Crispin and his team welcome a new talented neurotechnician to the island, Dr. Crispin quickly realizes his masterwork has fallen into the hands of a man he does not trust.

ZOMBIES

Back on the mainland, Ken Bishop and his best friend Jorge get caught in a traffic jam on their way home from work. There’s a wreck up ahead. And something worse. The first sign of a major outbreak—and Ken and Jorge are stuck in the gridlock. Not only do they need to escape, but they also need to save as many people as possible on the way.

ARMAGEDDON

Now Dr. Crispin and his team must make a terrible decision. Should they send the Dogs out into the zombie apocalypse to rescue survivors? Or should they listen to the new neurotechnician, who would have them hoard their resources and post the Dogs as island guards?

Review:

The authors did a fantastic job in combining Zombies, Warewolfs and modern man.  The story line flows very nicely from event to event and I found it to be more believable than I thought it would be.  Pavlos Dogs is well written and not far-fetched as one might believe of a Zombie/Warewolf novel.

I give this book a 5 star rating.

The Third Fate by Nadja Notarini {Book Tour}

Sneak Peak - Chapter 1

Meet Cael Macinnis of the Clain Macinnis natural born of the highlands - vampire just arrived in Glasgow

"A heartbeat sounded in his ear, the pumping of blood through his victim's body the sound he locked onto. He strained his senses to identify more fully what drew him. For the first time in ages, he could not. Although the scent pervaded the area, its source remained a mystery beyond the cursory. Female. Vampire. He wanted it. By the time he noticed the delicate creature walking toward the townhouse tenement Cael was savage with blood lust. Hunting, stalking, locked onto the female's heartbeat, his senses warned.

Human - vampire – no...human.

Fighting the urge to drink was beyond him, the scent of the female vampire so near, so strong – so made for him - that his cock strained against his jeans and his fangs elongated in the erotic hunger denied him for so long. His eyes burned, reddening with the impending promise of fulfillment........"

Meet Paige Kinnell - Junior Librarian at The Mitchell (main library in Glasgow)

"What is going on with me tonight?

Shaking her head and snuggling into the chair she stretched her legs on the ottoman and sank into deep sleep. Her phone chirped much later, and she uttered apologies in her dreamlike stupor, returning to sleep like the dead. As her body rested, her mind came alive. Erotic images filled her dreams - images of a man. Tall, well over six feet in height with hair the color of blackest midnight and piercing blue eyes, he looked upon her, whispered her name, touched her. She was in paradise! The presence surrounded, occupying all senses at once. Earthy and masculine, his scent filled her with every breath. His voice, low and husky, rumbled through her body with every utterance. His form, hovering over and around her, awakened every nerve in her flesh, leaving her trembling under his gaze and aching for his caress. Yet she could not really see him for the haze in her mind. The images were jumbled, distorted, frustrating. Suddenly, he was solid before her again. But his eyes were now blood red, his gaze hungry and sexual in a way that frightened her.

And aroused her.

In predatory manner he smelled her, a terrifying and wildly sensual groan emanating from him as he gripped her head, tilting it to expose her neck to his mouth. His eyes raked over her, and terror welled inside Paige at the sight of his incisors elongating.

He was vampire."

My Thoughts:

This is a very intriguingly and erotic book that was very hard to put down.

I give this book a 5 star rating!

Roll Call by Glenn Langohr {Book Review}

About the book:

Roll Call is a true prison story with a cast of characters that include Mexican drug cartels, Southern California street gangs and Hell's Angels all fighting for their piece of the drug culture. In the middle of it all, B.J. is hell bent for destruction until he realizes his destiny in the nick of time.

Add a good detective squeezed out of the loop by an overzealous narcotic detective; a robust prison union trying to call the shots; a handful of drug criminals trying to find their conscience and you have the perfect recipe for a revolutionary uprising, bound by blood, all leaving the reader wondering, who are the real criminals?

About the Author:

Glenn Langohr resides in southern California where he spends his time doing what he loves best, reading and writing. He started writing from prison on drug charges and hasn't stopped since. He is an usher at his church and loves to reach out to other prisoners to help them turn their lives around. Glenn is married to his dream girl, Sanette, who plays Annette in one of his novels.

The author will gift his books FREE from the Kindle store to those who can't afford it...

Review:

Glen Langohr gives you a true analysis of what it's like to get caught up on the wrong side of the law.  An extremely fascinating book filled with honesty about the world of drugs and prison.  The suspense Glen Langohr creates is suspenseful, exciting and real.  I recommend this book to young readers in hopes some will find it helpful within their own lives.

I give this a 5 star rating.

Review:

Recently I had the pleasure of reviewing "The Chapel Chronicles" and was thrilled at the chance.  What was really nice is that this is a comic strip for all ages from a teen perspective. Emma brings "Chapel" to life in her 4 column comic and you can always find something unexpected within the story line.  Season 2 will be out mid October and I can't wait to see what happens next.

For the review I received (my pictures are not the greatest with the lighting in here and my shaking but you get the idea)....

Arms of Love by Kelly Long {Book Review}

About the Book:

The year is 1777. America is in turmoil.  And Amish life is far different than today.

Pennsylvania in the late 18th century, once called William Penn's Woods, was an assortment of different faiths living together for the first time in American history. Included in this tapestry was a small and struggling population called Amish.

Surrounding this peaceful people were unavoidable threats: both Patriots and the British were pillaging land and goods for the sake of the war, young Amishmen were leaving the faith to take up arms and defend freedom. A simple walk in the untamed forests could result in death, if not from bullet or arrow, then from an encounter with a wild animal.

Amid this time of tumult, Adam Wyse is fighting a personal battle. To possibly join the war efforts and leave his faith, which would mean walking away from the only woman he's ever loved: Lena Yoder. But for that love he's made a promise that may keep them apart permanently.

When Adam withdraws from Lena, she's forced to turn to his brother, Isaac, for support. Must Lena deny her heart's desire to save Adam's soul? And will life in this feral and primitive New World be more than this peace-keeping people can withstand?

About the Author:

Kelly Long was born and raised in North Central Pennsylvania. There was an Amish hitching post at the small grocery store in her town. She loves to write Amish romance and is the author of novel, Sarah's Garden, the novella Amish Christmas Expanded Edition with some other great Amish authors, Amish Love with Beth Wiseman and Kathy Fuller, and Lilly's Wedding Quilt--the sequel to Sarah's Garden. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and children.

Review:

This was written in an earlier time period than what I've read before and I enjoyed the difference very much.  Instead of dwelling on the differences between the Amish and the modern world, the author put a lot of work into who the Amish are as people and their beliefs, which I found very interesting.  I would recommend this book to those who like to read more about the olden days of the Amish.

Artic Fire by Paul Byers {Book Review}

About the book:

Wealthy entrepreneur Nigel Cain has devised an efficient new way to bring the earth's most precious resource - clean water - to the masses by transporting massive man-made icebergs from the frigid arctic and delivering them literally to the doorsteps of millions. Gabriel Pike works in a small engineering firm that has been handed the chance of a lifetime - they have been chosen to give the final safety approval to pilot the gigantic block of ice into New York harbor.

A consummate showman, Cain has built a fabulous 5-Star hotel and casino high atop the iceberg so his celebrity guests and media elite can cover this news-breaking event from beginning to the end. Pike is whisked away and dumped in the lap of luxury where he is expected by all too simply rubber-stamp his inspection.

A brutal winter storms ravages the iceberg and only through Pike's quick thinking are they able to survive. But the storm reveals more than Pike's ability to think on his feet, he makes some disturbing discoveries and has serious doubts about the safety or the real intentions of the project. A grisly double homicide on the ice puts the inspections on the back burner and Pike's life is suddenly spiraling out of control as he is accused of being the jealous murderer in a lover's triangle.

But Pike soon discovers that there is far more than just his life on the line. He uncovers a conspiracy more heinous than anything he could have imagined - a plot that will level a city, change the political face of America and whose shockwaves will be felt around the world. Now, if only he can only survive long enough to stop it.

About the Author:

Paul grew up in Oregon on the shores of the mighty and mysterious Columbia River, and spent endless hours daydreaming on the beach in front of his house, making up stories about the ships from exotic ports all over the world that steamed up the river - what secret cargo might they be carrying; did they harbor spies who were on dark and exciting missions?

Later in adult life, he moved to another mysterious and provocative city - Las Vegas, just outside the famous Nellis Air Force base. After work he would sit on his porch and watch the fighters take off and land, igniting his imagination with visions of secret missions and rich speculation about what could possibly be hidden at Area 51.

After moving back to his native Pacific Northwest, Paul worked for the Navy and took every opportunity he could to speak with veterans from WWII to the Gulf War, listening to them swap stories and relate the experiences of a lifetime.

So it is this combination of a passionate love of history, a vivid "what if" imagination, and a philosophy of life that boils down to the belief that - there are few things in life that a bigger hammer won't fix - that led Paul to become a writer of exciting, fact-based action-thrillers. His greatest joy is leaving his readers wondering where the facts end and the fiction begins.

Review:

Artic Fire is a fast and easy read which I finished in one day.  Filled with action and the possibility of what can happen in our future, this book will keep you at the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next.  I would give this a 5 star rating.

About the Book:

Space scientist Carin Gonzales and former submarine commander Jake Sabio are two strangers drifting separately through life when a thunderous explosion above the giant Barringer Meteor Crater inexplicably brings them together, transforming both in unpredictable ways. Now able to see and smell more precisely and move in ways that are clearly impossible, Gonzales and Sabio soon realize that these kinds of life-changing alterations do not come without a price. Worse yet, they soon notice that others who witnessed the explosion are now dead from a seemingly incurable infection. The CDC wants nothing more than to lock them up in a lab for study. Special Agent Will Greenfield wants them for questioning. Contract killer Antonio Crubari would be happy if they would just hurry up and die, but he is willing to speed up the process if need be. Time is running out for Gonzales and Sabio. But even as they struggle to survive and find a cure for the deadly infection, they uncover a secret of monumental proportions that changes everything-including the future.

You don't know you're a misfit until you are marked as an outcast.

From the darkest hour of American history emerges a mesmerizing tale of tender love, a life interrupted, and faith recovered. Arissa Illahi, a Muslim artist and writer, discovers in a single moment that no matter how carefully you map your life, it is life itself that chooses your destiny. After her husband's death in the collapse of the World Trade Center, the discovery of his manuscript marks Arissa's reconnection to life. Her unborn son and the unfinished novel fuse in her mind into one life-defining project that becomes, at once, the struggle for her emotional survival and the redemption of her race. Saffron Dreams is a novel about our ever evolving identities and the events and places that shape them. It reminds us that in the midst of tragedy, our dreams can become a lasting legacy.
